Top Internet Searches of 2023: What Did You Google?

Google has released its “Year in Search” for 2023, showcasing the top global queries and trends from this year. The ongoing Israel-Hamas war, the Titanic-bound submersible implosion, and devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria were among the top news trends, while Damar Hamlin, a Buffalo Bills safety who experienced a near-death cardiac arrest on the field, was the top trending person on search.

In entertainment, “Barbie” dominated movie trends, while in music, Yoasobi’s “アイドル (Idol)” and Jason Aldean’s “Try That In A Small Town” were top trending songs. The top trending recipe was Bibimbap, and Inter Miami CF, the new home of Argentine soccer superstar Lionel Messi, led Google’s sports teams trends. Notably, many U.S. consumers searched why eggs, Taylor Swift tickets, and sriracha bottles were so expensive.

The “Year in Search” archive includes more data, including country-specific lists and trends from years past, collected from Jan. 1 through Nov. 27 of this year. Google has also released top search data “of all time” across various specific categories to mark its 25th birthday.

This year has been filled with highs and lows, and as 2023 draws to a close, various platforms, including Wikipedia, have been releasing their year-end lists recapping the year’s online activity. With the availability of annual data from different platforms, it is clear that the digital landscape continues to shape global trends and interests.
