The Buffalo Bills have been named the most searched sports team in New York, surpassing the historically popular New York Yankees. A study conducted by gambling publisher CasinoReviews.net analyzed Google search data for 153 teams across the NFL, NHL, NBA, MLB, and MLS sports leagues to gauge their popularity. The study looked at the combined number of searches for each team name and nickname, as well as specific search terms related to each team. The top five most searched sports teams in New York were revealed to be the Buffalo Bills, New York Yankees, New York Mets, New York Knicks, and New York Giants.
The NFL emerged as the most popular sports league across the country, with 26 states having an NFL team as their most searched for team. MLB came in second, being the most popular in 16 states, while the NBA topped the list in seven states. The NHL only made the biggest mark in one state, Nevada. Surprisingly, despite the MLS’s recent rise in popularity, no MLS team was the most popular in any state.
The study’s findings not only showcase the popularity of NFL teams nationwide, with football teams being the most searched for in 26 states, but also the continued popularity of baseball as America’s pastime. Soccer teams, on the other hand, failed to take the top spot in any state.
The results of the study provide valuable insights into the sports fandom landscape in New York and across the United States, highlighting the dominance of the NFL and the enduring popularity of baseball. The Buffalo Bills’ position as the most searched sports team in New York is a testament to their strong fan following in the state.
