Delaware Legislators Approve Record-Breaking Grants-in-Aid Budget: $98.5 Million Allocated to Nonprofit Organizations

Delaware lawmakers have recently passed a $98.5 million Grants-in-Aid bill for fiscal year 2025, marking the largest allocation to nonprofits in the state’s history. This significant funding includes $11.6 million for fire companies in statewide fire and ambulance support, a 20% increase from the previous year. Additionally, $6.4 million has been allocated for one-time funding of $100,000 to statewide fire companies and public service ambulances.

Furthermore, over $17 million will go towards ongoing paramedic operations in all three counties, with an additional one-time allocation of $1 million for each county to enhance paramedic operations. Senior center operations statewide will receive $10.3 million, while $29 million will be distributed among various nonprofits throughout the state.

The bill is now awaiting approval from Governor John Carney. This funding allocation surpasses his Grants-in-Aid recommendation by approximately $32 million after he proposed a 7.6% decrease in funding from the previous fiscal year. Notably, Delaware Public Media will also benefit from this Grant-in-Aid bill, receiving $250,000, an increase from the $235,000 it received during the current fiscal year.

This significant investment in Grants-in-Aid reflects the state’s commitment to supporting vital services and programs provided by nonprofits, fire companies, paramedic operations, and senior centers throughout Delaware. The approval of this bill underscores the government’s recognition of the importance of these organizations in serving the community and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
