Two men were killed in a tragic two-vehicle crash in Berlin Township on Tuesday night, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The accident occurred at around 11:17 p.m. on U.S. 36 at Africa Road when a green 2005 GMC Sierra ran a stop sign and collided with a red 2009 Volvo dump truck driven by Justin Neff, 35, of Delaware. The impact of the crash resulted in the deaths of Derrick Price, 45, and Timothy Gibson, 50, both of Columbus, who were passengers in the pickup truck and were ejected during the collision. Neff suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol is currently investigating the crash and has not ruled out impairment or distraction as possible factors in the accident. Both Price and Gibson were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. The authorities were assisted at the scene by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, and Berlin Township Fire and EMS.
The tragic accident marks the 10th and 11th traffic fatalities in Delaware County for the year 2024, as reported by SAFE Delaware on Facebook. The community is devastated by the loss of two lives in such a horrific event and is urging drivers to prioritize safety and follow traffic laws to prevent further tragedies on the road.
