National Weather Service reports indicate that heavy rain may be possible in New Castle County this Fourth of July, potentially affecting fireworks displays in the area. While temperatures are expected to be pleasant in the evening, the chance of rain is significant, particularly between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
Meteorologist Joe DeSilva warns that there is a chance of precipitation across northern Delaware, with a threat of thunderstorms due to heat and humidity. However, pinpointing the exact timing and location of the rain is difficult. The chance of rain in northern Delaware will be approximately a coin flip until around 10:30 p.m.
On the bright side, southern Delaware, including the beaches, is expected to have a better weather outlook with a lower chance of rain. Kent and Sussex Counties do not have excessive rain warnings, and the probability of rain at the beaches is less than 30%. In Ocean City, Maryland, the chance of rain drops to about 25%.
Although there is a high chance of rain, forecasts suggest that the total amount of precipitation will not be significant, around a tenth of an inch. Bringing an umbrella and rain gear is advisable if heading outside for fireworks displays. Overall, while rain may be a temporary setback, it is recommended to plan accordingly for July 4 celebrations.
