Italian fashion influencer Chiara Ferragni has agreed to donate at least 1.2 million euros ($1.3 million) as part of a deal with Italian antitrust authorities. The investigation was regarding misleading communications that led consumers to believe that proceeds from the purchase of Easter eggs with Ferragni’s logo would go to a charity for children. Three of Ferragni’s companies will pay 5% of profits over three years, with a minimum set at 1.2 million euros, to a charity for disabled children named Children of the Fairies.
In addition, the maker of the eggs, Cerealitalia Industrie Dolciare, will also pay at least 100,000 euros to the charity. The payment is intended to compensate consumers who believed they were making an economic contribution to The Children of the Fairies through their purchases. The companies have also agreed to separate their commercial activities, including advertising, from charitable contributions.
This deal comes after Ferragni was fined 1 million euros in January for a similar scheme involving charitable communications tied to sales of a traditional Christmas cake. The agreements have dealt a blow to Ferragni’s image, which she has built over the years in the fashion industry as a blogger, influencer, and businesswoman. Despite these setbacks, Ferragni continues to be a prominent figure in the fashion world, with her own clothing, accessory, and makeup brands, as well as a position on the board of the Tod’s luxury group.
