The 4th of July celebration at the Tubman-Garrett Riverfront Park in Wilmington on Thursday, July 4, 2024, was a lively event that brought visitors and residents together for a day filled with family activities, live performances, and tours on the Kalmar Nyckel. The event culminated with a spectacular fireworks display at 9:30 p.m. Attendees enjoyed dancing to live music, taking selfies in front of the Kalmar Nyckel, and watching as the bridge was lifted to allow the ship to depart.
Families were seen enjoying face painting, playing with soap bubbles, and staying cool with water refill stations sponsored by The Department of Public Works. The event featured singers and other live entertainment, providing a festive atmosphere for all in attendance.
Wilmington Police patrolled the Christina River during the celebration to ensure the safety of everyone present. Despite the sweltering 90-degree heat, the crowd remained in high spirits, eagerly anticipating the grand fireworks finale over the Christina River.
Participants of all ages, including mothers with their children, were seen throughout the park, soaking up the patriotic spirit of the day. It was a memorable celebration filled with community unity and patriotic pride, giving everyone a reason to come together and celebrate the nation’s independence.
