Cell Phone Restrictions Possible for Delaware Students in the Upcoming School Year | Breaking News

Delaware students may soon have to say goodbye to their cell phones during school hours as the state looks to improve its education ranking. With a recent report placing Delaware at 45th in the nation for education, the State Department of Education and the General Assembly are taking steps to address the issue.

Nearly $300,000 has been allocated in the state’s one-time spending bill for locking cell phone pouches, which are designed to keep students’ phones inaccessible during the school day. State Sen. Eric Buckson is a strong supporter of the initiative, explaining that students can retrieve their phones at the end of the day.

However, not all parents are in favor of the idea, expressing concerns about emergency situations. Despite this, Buckson reassured that parents, administrators, and teachers would still have access to phones in case of an emergency.

The program would not be district-wide, with schools applying on a limited basis. Specific details on which schools will implement the program have not yet been disclosed.

As the summer continues and the new school year approaches, Delaware students may have to adjust to a new policy regarding cell phone usage in schools. The state’s efforts to improve education rankings through this initiative are ongoing, with the hope of creating a more focused and productive learning environment for students.
