Delaware May Seek Out More Sports Betting Operators

Several states allowing multiple sports betting operators have seen a surge in wagering numbers, but some smaller population states like Delaware have opted for just one operator. However, Delaware is now considering a change as legislators propose a bill to allow more operators in the state. The Delaware Lottery officials are concerned that this change could jeopardize their contract with Rush Street Interactive, but state Rep. Frank Cooke believes that more competition will lead to increased revenue.
The proposed legislation calls for six mobile sports betting operators, with two partnering with each of the state’s three casinos. Operators would have to pay a $500,000 licensing fee and contribute 18% of monthly adjusted gross sports income to the state’s general fund. This change comes after the state recently switched from 888 Holdings to Rush Street, which has led to significant revenue increases in online gaming.
The debate over whether to allow more operators in Delaware is ongoing, with supporters arguing that more choices would benefit both the state and the public. The proposed plan aims to create a more competitive environment in the state’s online gaming market. As the legislation progresses, Delaware residents and stakeholders will be watching closely to see how the market may evolve in the future.
