The Ohio Department of Development and Bridges Community Action Partnership are once again offering assistance to help Ohio’s families stay cool during the hot summer months through the Summer Crisis Program. From now through Sept. 30, income-eligible Ohioans can receive help in paying electric bills, purchasing air conditioners or fans, or making central air conditioning repairs. Qualifying households must have a gross income at or below 175 percent of the Federal Poverty Guidelines for a family of up to seven members. Last year, the program assisted over 44,000 households in Ohio, providing $13.4 million in benefits.
To apply, clients must schedule an appointment with Bridges Community Action Partnership and bring documents such as energy bills, proof of income, proof of citizenship or residency, and physician documentation if cooling assistance is needed for health reasons. Executive Director Andrew Binegar emphasized the importance of the Home Energy Assistance Program in helping low-income customers manage their utility costs.
Ohioans enrolled in the Percentage of Income Payment Plan Plus program who meet the criteria may also be eligible for assistance towards their default PIPP payment, repairs, or air conditioning units and fans. For more information about the program and how to apply, contact Bridges Community Action Partnership at 740-369-3184 or visit www.energyhelp.ohio.gov. The Ohio Department of Development works to invest in Ohio’s people, places, and businesses to help communities succeed.
