Paris’ iconic Moulin Rouge cabaret has restored its famous red windmill after it collapsed earlier this year. The windmill, first illuminated in 1889, is a symbol of the Montmartre neighborhood. A special ceremony featuring can-can dancing celebrated the windmill’s return. No one was injured when the windmill collapsed in April due to a technical issue. The cabaret, known for its can-can dance and featured in a 2001 film starring Nicole Kidman, is a major tourist attraction. With its 135th anniversary this year, the Moulin Rouge attracts over 600,000 visitors annually. The cabaret worked quickly to repair the windmill in time for the Olympic torch relay passing through the area on July 15th. The musical adaptation of the film debuted on Broadway in 2019 and in the West End in 2022. The restored windmill is a symbol of the rich history and cultural significance of the Moulin Rouge, continuing to captivate audiences worldwide.
