Bill proposing expansion of mobile sports wagering in Delaware could bring increased competition, reports WDEL News

State lawmakers in Delaware are considering allowing competition in the mobile sports wagering industry less than four months after it became legal in the state. Rush Street Interactive, operating under the BetRivers brand, has already launched sports wagering sites in partnership with three racetracks in Delaware. However, Rep. Franklin Cooke has introduced HB 365, which would allow each racetrack to partner with up to two additional sports wagering sites, potentially opening the door for companies like FanDuel and DraftKings to enter the market.

Under the proposed bill, mobile sports gaming companies would have to pay $500,000 for a five-year license and return a portion of their proceeds to the state and the horse racing industry. A percentage of the revenue would also go towards assisting with the treatment of compulsive gambling. The Delaware Lottery would have five months to put initial regulations in place if the bill is passed.

Despite the potential for new companies to enter the market, the bill would prohibit Delawareans from wagering on University of Delaware and Delaware State University sporting events. The bill has been assigned to the House Administration Committee, and if passed, it would provide more options for sports wagering in Delaware and allow for increased competition in the industry. Fans of mobile sports wagering in the state will have to wait and see how the proposed bill progresses and if it will bring changes to the current landscape of sports betting in Delaware.
