President Joe Biden did not wear a face mask in public after testing positive for COVID-19. Despite experiencing mild symptoms, he chose not to wear a mask while traveling to Rehoboth Beach and engaging in other activities. The CDC recommends wearing masks as a strategy to reduce transmission, but does not mandate it for symptomatic individuals. Biden’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor, stated that the president had a runny nose, dry cough, and general malaise and was being treated with the drug Paxlovid while self-isolating according to CDC guidance.
The White House did not comment on Biden’s decision to not wear a mask. However, Biden’s reelection campaign reported that he was feeling fine and able to work while being treated for COVID-19. White House national security spokesperson John Kirby stated that Biden was being kept informed on national security matters by his leadership team. Overall, Biden’s symptoms remained mild, he did not have a fever, and his vital signs were normal. Despite not wearing a mask, Biden continued to work and engage in his responsibilities as the President.
