Delaware DMV Forced to Close Due to International IT Outage

A statewide IT outage in Delaware has caused disruptions to various state services, with the Division of Motor Vehicles being the hardest hit. Computer and phone systems are offline, leading to the closure of Delaware DMV offices on Friday. Additionally, traffic cameras across the state are down, although public safety services are operating normally.

The outage is not believed to be a cyber attack, according to an official statement from the governor’s office. State IT experts are working to restore internet access for individuals with Microsoft operating systems and get employees back online. Despite the challenges, DART’s public transportation services are still operational, though there have been some delays and difficulties with the phone and computer systems.

C.R. McLeod, DelDOT’s director of community relations, reassured the public that efforts are underway to address the IT issues, with the goal of restoring normal operations by Monday when state offices reopen. He noted that progress is being made and urged patience as state officials continue to work on resolving the problem.

The outage serves as a reminder of the importance of robust IT infrastructure and contingency plans for such emergencies. State officials are committed to addressing the issue promptly and ensuring that essential services are restored as quickly as possible.
