Delaware County Community Updates

In an effort to combat a critical shortage of patrol officers in Chester, Delaware County employees are stepping in to assist with nonpatrol duties, allowing more Chester officers to be on the streets this summer. The Summer 2024 Safe Streets Program, spearheaded by Delaware County Council, District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer, and Chester Mayor Stefan Roots, aims to address the increase in crime typical during the summer months by utilizing select county employees for nonpatrol roles. The county employees will be compensated through grant funding from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. This initiative was proposed after a meeting involving stakeholders from various law enforcement agencies, aiming to find innovative solutions to the staffing shortage within the Chester Police Department. The program is expected to run until the end of the summer and will provide additional officers for patrol duties in Chester.
