Delaware is gearing up for another pickleball season, with the sport gaining popularity among players of all ages and fitness levels. Created in 1975, pickleball is a fun and easy-to-learn game that combines elements of tennis and badminton. The sport has seen a significant increase in players in recent years, with more players aged 55 and up and under 24 joining in.
For those interested in playing pickleball in Delaware, there are plenty of courts and clubs across the state where players can enjoy a match. Online sign-ups are often used to reserve playing time and coordinate matches and tournaments. New Castle County alone has numerous locations such as D-Fit, Hockessin Community Recreation Center, and the Siegel Jewish Community Center where players can get in on the action.
In response to the growing demand for pickleball, plans are underway to add 24 new pickleball courts throughout New Castle County by 2023. This investment in sports and recreation is part of a broader effort to enhance the county’s parks and recreational facilities. Additionally, the renovation of the Nylon Capital Center in Seaford will include pickleball courts, bocce courts, and bowling as part of the recreational offerings.
