Salesianum School claimed its eighth Delaware state championship in baseball on Saturday with a 7-4 victory over Caesar Rodney. The showdown took place at Frawley Stadium in Wilmington and drew in a large crowd of supporters for both teams.
Salesianum got off to a strong start, scoring 5 runs in the first two innings. Caesar Rodney responded with 2 runs of their own, but Salesianum extended their lead with another run in the fourth inning. Caesar Rodney managed to score 2 more runs in the fifth, but it was not enough to overtake Salesianum’s lead.
The star of the game for Salesianum was pitcher Matthew Cinquina, who threw a complete game, allowing just 7 hits and 4 runs while striking out 6 batters. Offensively, Salesianum was led by Luke Swift, who went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 RBIs.
After the win, Salesianum’s head coach Ted Godfrey praised his team for their hard work and dedication throughout the season. He also credited their success to the strong leadership of their seniors and the work ethic of the whole team.
