The voter registration deadline for Delaware’s Primary Election is fast approaching, with residents required to register by Saturday, August 17 in order to participate in the September 10th primary. Only voters registered with the Democratic and Republican parties are eligible to vote in their respective party’s primary election. However, there are some registered voters without any affiliation, known as no-party AVR voters, who can still participate in the primary.
Cathleen Hartsky-Carter, from the Delaware Department of Elections, emphasizes that these no-party AVR voters are the only ones who can change their party affiliation in order to vote in the primary election. To register to vote in Delaware, individuals must be U.S. citizens, residents of Delaware, and at least 18 years old by the date of the next General Election in November 2024.
Hartsky-Carter highlights the convenience of registering online through the ivote.de.gov portal, where individuals will need their Delaware driver’s license or state ID to complete the process. Alternatively, registration forms can be downloaded and printed, or submitted in person at the Dept. of Elections offices in Wilmington, Dover, or Georgetown. The offices are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through the registration deadline.
With the deadline looming, Delaware residents are encouraged to ensure they are registered to vote in order to have their voices heard in the upcoming primary election.
