After more than four years of construction, the Carroll County Career and Technology Center is on track to be completed before the start of the school year. The project, costing approximately $74 million, has been funded by both Carroll County and the state of Maryland, with $34 million and $40 million contributed respectively.
The expansion adds over 100,000 square feet to the facility, which was originally built in 1971 to accommodate 380 students across 19 programs. Currently, the center serves around 800 students in 24 programs per semester. Despite the challenges of maintaining instruction during construction, the project has been successful.
Superintendent Cynthia McCabe noted that while the renovation will enhance existing programs, it will not increase the school’s capacity. Board of Education member Donna Sivigny praised the dedication of the team in completing the complex four-year phased project.
The completion of construction at the career and technology center marks a significant milestone for the school. Although the renovation will not allow for additional students to be admitted, it will bring the programs up to modern standards.
With construction nearing its end, excitement is building within the school community. The final touches are being put in place as the school prepares to welcome students back for the new academic year.
