Fatal Shooting of Student in Possible Murder-Suicide at Rice University

Andrea Rodriguez Avila, a junior at Rice University, was found fatally shot in her dorm room in Houston, and the suspect, her boyfriend, was found dead nearby. Campus police discovered her body after concerns from her family about lack of contact, and found a note suggesting a troubled relationship. The suspect, believed to be from Florida, died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. There was no forced entry into the residence. Counseling is available for students, and the campus is considered safe. Jones College, where the incident occurred, has a history of providing a place for women to reside on campus.
