Delaware is gearing up for a three-way Democratic and Republican primary for the gubernatorial race, with six candidates competing for the post. In addition, primary races are set for the lieutenant governor and insurance commissioner positions. The winners of these statewide races in September will advance to the general election in November. Some candidates are facing challenges from opposing parties.
Among the candidates in the gubernatorial race are incumbent Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long, New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer, and former Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Secretary Collin O’Mara on the Democratic side. On the Republican side are retired police officer Jerrold Price, House Minority Leader Mike Ramone, and businessman Bobby Williamson.
For the lieutenant governor’s race, three Democratic candidates are vying for the position, while the former state Rep. Ruth Briggs King will represent the Republicans. The insurance commissioner’s race will see a rematch between incumbent Trinidad Navarro and Kayode Abegunde in the Democratic primary.
The primary election is two weeks away, and Delawareans can expect a packed ballot with several important races to be decided. As candidates make their final pitches to voters, the stage is set for a competitive and closely watched election season in the First State.
