The war between Russia and Ukraine has entered its 914th day with intense fighting as of Tuesday, August 27, 2024. Russia targeted Ukraine’s energy infrastructure with drones and missiles, resulting in casualties and severe damage. Ukraine’s Air Force commander claimed to have shot down a significant number of missiles and drones launched by Russia.
Poland reported a possible drone entering its airspace during the Russian attacks. President Joe Biden condemned the “outrageous attack” and reiterated the US support for Ukraine. A journalist from Reuters was critically injured, and a safety adviser was killed in a missile attack.
Russia also launched attacks on Ukrainian forces in various regions, including the Kursk and Sumy regions. The International Atomic Energy Agency announced a mission to inspect the Kursk nuclear power plant in Russia due to the “serious situation.”
In politics and diplomacy, Biden discussed the situation with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who visited Kyiv last week to show support for peace and stability in Ukraine. A French citizen, Laurent Vinatier, will face trial in Russia for allegedly collecting information on military issues.
Ukraine claims to have developed a new long-range weapon, the Palianytsia, to strike deep into Russia. Notably, Russia was the only member of the UN Security Council to skip an informal meeting in Switzerland on international humanitarian law.
