Russia has launched a series of missile and drone attacks targeting multiple regions in Ukraine, resulting in the deaths of at least four people. Two individuals were killed in a hotel in Kryvyi Rih, while two more died in drone attacks in Zaporizhzhia. Ukrainian air defences successfully repelled the attacks, shooting down 15 drones and several missiles near Kyiv.
In response to the attacks, US President Joe Biden condemned Russia’s actions as “outrageous” and stated that Russia will not succeed in Ukraine. Residents in Kyiv sought shelter in metro stations as the attacks continued, causing fear and uncertainty among the population.
The attacks were seen as an act of retaliation by Russia following Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk region. The Kremlin had promised a response to Ukraine’s actions in Kursk, but Ukraine has claimed further advances in the region.
The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed that its strikes targeted critical energy infrastructure in Ukraine, denying any intentional targeting of civilians. Kryvyi Rih and Zaporizhzhia were among the regions heavily impacted by the attacks, with buildings damaged and casualties reported.
Despite the ongoing conflict, Ukraine remains resilient, with its air force monitoring and responding to Russian attacks. The situation remains tense, with no signs of a resolution in sight as Russia continues its aggression towards Ukraine.
