In Balochistan, Pakistan, a truck driver named Munir Ahmed survived a violent attack by ethnic militants despite being shot five times. The attackers ambushed his convoy of trucks and lined up the drivers on the roadside before opening fire. Ahmed pretended to be dead and was thrown into a stream along with his colleagues. The Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attacks, which killed at least 70 people, including civilians. Rescuers initially thought Ahmed was dead, but he was discovered to be alive when brought to the hospital. He had been shot in the arm and back but was in stable condition. Ahmed, far from home in Punjab, expressed shock and sorrow over the loss of his colleagues and uncertainty about his future. The attackers also stopped buses, killing men in front of their families, in a widespread and deadly assault. The violence was one of the most widespread attacks by ethnic militants in years in Balochistan, a resource-rich province bordering Iran and Afghanistan. Despite the traumatic experience, Ahmed was recovering in the hospital and receiving medical treatment after surviving the brutal attack.
