Boat crash in Old Saybrook, Connecticut leaves 1 dead and 2 people missing

One person has died and two others are missing after a boat crash in Old Saybrook on Monday night. The accident occurred when a 31-foot motorboat carrying nine people struck a jetty at the mouth of the Connecticut River while returning from Block Island. Five people are in the hospital, with the boat operator in critical condition. The search for the missing boaters was suspended overnight and is set to resume on Tuesday morning.

Rescue crews found the boat half submerged and significantly damaged following multiple 911 calls about the crash. One man was found dead in the vessel, and six others were taken to the hospital. The extent of their injuries has not been released, but it is known that at least one person has been released from the hospital.

The State Police Dive Unit, U.S. Coast Guard helicopter, and various other agencies are involved in the search and recovery efforts. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but it is believed that the boat hit the jetty as the tide was coming in. The search and recovery operation remains ongoing as authorities work to locate the missing individuals and determine the full extent of the tragedy.
