Wheelchair racer Sammi Kinghorn won a stunning T53 100m gold at the Paris Paralympics, setting a Paralympic record and becoming the first non-Chinese athlete to win the title in 20 years. Zoe Newson secured silver in powerlifting after an appeal, while Poppy Maskill won her fourth medal in the pool. Rhys Darbey grabbed silver, Alice Tai won silver, and Sophie Wells took bronze in dressage. Tim Jeffery secured a bronze in shooting.
In other events, Karim Chan narrowly missed out on a bronze in the men’s T38 long jump, the GB women’s wheelchair basketball team gave the US a scare before being eliminated in the quarter-finals, and Andy Lapthorne and Greg Slade settled for silver in wheelchair tennis quad doubles. Alfie Hewett advanced to the men’s singles semi-finals, but Gordon Reid was eliminated in the quarter-finals. Overall, Team GB had a successful day at the Paralympics in Paris, with athletes showcasing their skills and determination on the world stage.
