New Castle County and ChristianaCare have recently announced an extension of their partnership to provide medical respite program services at the Hope Center. ChristianaCare will continue to lease the entire 6th floor of the Hope Center, which consists of 36 rooms, to accommodate hospital patients who are ready to be discharged but are experiencing homelessness or housing instability.
County Executive Matt Meyer emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that ChristianaCare does not discharge patients to the street if they have nowhere to go. By offering a place for these vulnerable individuals to stay, the medical respite program helps reduce the burden on hospital resources while ensuring that patients receive the appropriate care they need.
The Hope Center not only provides housing but also offers a range of services to support individuals in need, including medical care. Through ChristianaCare’s on-site medical services, patients will have access to primary care services such as OB/GYN, pediatrics, and geriatric care.
This extension of the partnership is a testament to the commitment of both New Castle County and ChristianaCare to address the needs of the community’s most vulnerable individuals. By continuing to provide these vital services, the medical respite program at the Hope Center will help improve the overall health and well-being of those in need for the foreseeable future.
