Delaware residents are gearing up for the primary day on Tuesday, with key races in the spotlight. The Democratic race for Governor sees three candidates – Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long, New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer, and former DNREC Secretary Collin O’Mara – vying for the nomination. On the Republican side, State Rep. Mike Ramone, Bobby Williamson, and Jerry Price are competing in their primary.
In the race for Lt. Gov., State Sen. Kyle Evans Gay, State Rep. Sherry Dorsey Walker, and Debbie Harrington are contending for the Democratic nomination. The Wilmington Mayor’s race features Governor John Carney against former Wilmington City Treasurer Velda Jones-Potter. Over 30,000 people have already cast their votes through early voting or absentee ballots.
Early voter turnout includes 18,510 voters, with New Castle County having 7,029, Kent County with 2,788, and Sussex County with 8,693. In terms of absentee voters, 5,931 are from New Castle County, 1,793 from Kent County, and 4,129 from Sussex County, totaling 11,853 absentee votes. For those yet to vote, polls will be open on Tuesday from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
With such high early voter turnout, the primary day is shaping up to be an exciting and closely contested event in Delaware. Voters are encouraged to participate in the democratic process and have their voices heard in the selection of candidates for key positions within the state.
