Apple unveiled its highly anticipated plans for AI at a glitzy California event, showcasing the new iPhone 16 as the company’s first model built for generative artificial intelligence (GenAI). The phone boasts a camera button for visual intelligence and various AI functions such as instant reviews, custom emojis, and improved Siri capabilities. The iPhone 16 comes in two versions, with prices starting at €969 and is available for pre-order on September 13.
Notably, Apple is prioritizing privacy by processing most AI functions on the device itself rather than at remote data centers. The company promises tight control over data handling, ensuring no personal information is stored remotely. The AI functions will roll out via a free software update to iOS 18.
While the iPhone 16 will launch in the US and select English-speaking countries in December, Apple has not announced plans for a European release due to regulatory concerns surrounding compliance with the Digital Markets Act. The event also saw the unveiling of the Apple Watch Series 10 with new features like improved display and sleep apnea detection, as well as the AirPods 4 series with upgraded audio quality, noise cancellation, and even acting as a hearing aid with a free software update.
Overall, Apple’s focus on AI, privacy, and innovation in its latest products continues to position the tech giant as a leader in the smartphone market.
