New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer claimed victory over Lieutenant Governor Bethany Hall-Long in the primary election, garnering 47% of the vote. In his acceptance speech, Meyer emphasized the importance of honesty and transparency in his campaign, stating that the victory was a win for Delaware. Despite Hall-Long being the frontrunner with several endorsements, Meyer secured key endorsements and support from within the Democratic party.
Looking ahead to the General Election in November, Meyer highlighted key policy points such as improving the state’s education system, providing affordable housing, expanding senior healthcare, and addressing climate change. His opponent, Republican Mike Ramone, expressed his focus on listening to the people of Delaware and bringing new solutions to the table without being influenced by outside interests.
Former environmental secretary Collin O’Mara, who received 16% of the vote, remains committed to addressing critical issues in the state. The stage is set for a vibrant debate between Meyer and Ramone, with both candidates offering contrasting visions for Delaware’s future. Ramone, focusing on a fresh perspective and new ideas, believes it is time for a change after 32 years of one-party rule in the state.
As the race heats up for the Governor’s seat in Delaware, voters will have a choice between two candidates with differing approaches and priorities for the state’s future. Meyer and Ramone will now prepare for a rigorous campaign leading up to the General Election in November.
