Powell resident John Arnett is set to release his debut science fiction novel, “Monarch,” next week on the first of October. This novel has been a dream of his for over 25 years, as he initially realized his passion for writing while working at a software company in the late 1990s. For seven years, Arnett woke up early to work on his novel before going to work, finally completing it in 2007.
After trying to go the traditional publishing route for many years, Arnett discovered the concept of hybrid publishing and signed a contract with Mascot Books a year and a half ago. The novel follows tech worker Danny Kerrigan as he navigates an intergalactic investigation to prevent a powerful amulet from falling into the wrong hands. Arnett based Kerrigan’s character on himself in his younger years.
Arnett describes the book as a mixture of drama, heartwarming moments, action, and humor, with the intention of making the characters likable and entertaining for readers. He plans on turning “Monarch” into a trilogy, with the second and third books already in the works conceptually.
Arnett’s advice for aspiring authors is simple: “Write it! If you have an idea, get to work.” “Monarch” is available for preorder on Amazon and Barnes & Noble, with more information on Arnett’s social media pages. He describes the process of finally publishing the book as “fantastic” and a culmination of years of hard work and dedication.
