Pesto, a large king penguin chick at an Australian aquarium, has become a popular attraction, drawing hundreds of visitors and even catching the attention of pop star Katy Perry. The 9-month-old penguin weighs 52 pounds, making him the largest chick ever seen at Sea Life Melbourne. Pesto’s fluffy brown feathers help keep him warm through winter, but he will eventually shed them to develop adult feathers. Despite being non-sexually dimorphic, a gender reveal event on social media recently confirmed that Pesto is a male, exciting his caretakers. Pesto is cared for by his parents, Tango and Hudson, as well as aquarium staff, who feed him 25 fish a day. Parental care for a king penguin chick can last over a year. Pesto’s videos on platforms like TikTok have gained millions of likes, further increasing his popularity. Katy Perry expressed a desire to meet Pesto and even kiss him during a recent visit to Melbourne for a performance. With his unique size and charm, Pesto has become a beloved figure that has captured the hearts of visitors and fans worldwide.
