The Ohio Lt. Gov. Jon Husted recently announced that Delaware City Schools had been awarded over $1 million in grant funding for career technical education equipment. The grant, part of the Career Technical Education Equipment Grant Program, will help launch three new career pathway programs in the district. Assistant Superintendent Dr. Misty Swanger explained that the district has been working on building partnerships with local businesses to integrate more career pathways into their curriculum. The grant will fund career exploration labs with equipment such as hydraulic arm robots, solar energy control panels, drone technology, and more. The three career pathways that will be offered in the future include advanced manufacturing, health sciences, and a teacher academy. For each pathway, equipment such as high-end computers, medical lab equipment, and updated computers and iPads will be purchased using the grant funds. Superintendent Heidi Kegley emphasized the importance of expanding offerings to students and providing them with the skills needed for success. The grant was written with the support of the Delaware Area Career Center in order to offer unique programs that complement existing offerings. The goal of the career pathways is to give students early exposure to potential careers, saving time and money for families while providing a strong foundation of skills that can be applied in any field.
