The war in Ukraine has entered its 950th day with ongoing violence and political tensions. Recent developments include Russian artillery fire hitting a market in Kherson, resulting in six deaths and several injuries. In the Zaporizhia region, aerial bombs targeted residential buildings and infrastructure, leaving one dead and 32 injured.
Ukraine’s military claimed to have shot down 29 out of 32 Iranian-made drones in a Russian attack on multiple regions. Russian troops were reported to have reached the center of Vuhledar in Donetsk, with uncertainty about their control of the town. Russia captured two more villages, Krutyi Yar and Vyshneve, according to reports.
On Defenders Day, Ukraine observed a moment of silence to honor their war dead. The UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine highlighted pervasive Russian mistreatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war. Three journalists were released after being detained for attending a Red Square event commemorating the annexation of Ukrainian regions. NATO’s new Secretary-General stated that Ukraine is his top priority.
