Orange Township residents will have the opportunity to vote on the renewal of the fire levy next month. The levy, which has been in place since 2013 and was last renewed in 2021, will continue to be at a rate of 7 mills for each $1 of taxable value, costing taxpayers $141 for every $100,000 of the county auditor’s appraised value. In addition, voters approved an additional 2-mill fire levy last year to further support fire and EMS services as operational costs continue to rise.
Orange Township Fire Chief Nathan McNeil emphasized the importance of the levy in maintaining the department’s operations and retaining quality personnel. With costs for equipment and maintenance on the rise, the renewal levy is crucial for the department to continue providing essential services to the community. McNeil acknowledged the challenges of asking for tax renewals during tough economic times but expressed confidence in the community’s ongoing support.
