Delaware City Schools Board of Education was awarded a grant of over $1 million to enhance career pathways at Hayes High School. The grant will fund the creation of three career pathways in advanced manufacturing, health sciences, and a teacher academy. The pathways aim to give students introductory courses in their chosen fields and provide them with credentials or certifications upon graduation. The grant will also help create a career exploration lab at Dempsey Middle School to expose students to 20 different careers.
Assistant Superintendent Dr. Misty Swanger emphasized the importance of helping students identify career paths from elementary school to high school, and the grant will support this goal by offering students more opportunities to explore various career options. The grant will also address a teacher shortage by providing a teacher academy pathway to encourage students to pursue careers in education.
The Board of Education also discussed the ongoing work of the Facilities Committee, which has audited all district buildings and will present its findings on enrollment projections at the next meeting. The board approved several staffing changes, including retirements and resignations, as well as new employments.
Overall, the district is focused on providing students with diverse career pathways and opportunities, ensuring they have the necessary skills and credentials to succeed in the workforce or continue their education. The upcoming presentation from the Facilities Committee will provide insight into the district’s future plans for creating a conducive learning environment for students.
