Delaware Sends Aid to Assist Hurricane Helene Recovery Operations

Delaware Steps Up to Provide Aid to Hurricane Helene Victims in North Carolina

In response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, Delaware has sent a much-needed donation of bottled water, infant formula, and meal boxes to North Carolina to assist victims of the natural disaster. The donation, which was sent on Monday, included three pallets each of infant formula and donated meal boxes with shelf-stable items, as well as 18 pallets of bottled water.

The Food Bank of Delaware, as part of the Feeding America network, played a crucial role in coordinating the disaster relief efforts for areas impacted by Hurricane Helene. Delaware Food Bank President and CEO Cathy Kanefsky highlighted the importance of this coordinated effort, which takes pressure off of local chapters directly affected by the disaster.

The infant formula included in the donation is part of Delaware’s free Infant Formula Distribution Program, which was launched in response to a national shortage in 2022. Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long helped launch this program, and the formula has now been sent to families in need in the southeast.

Last week, the Delaware Emergency Management Agency and the Delaware State Fire School also deployed a Swift Water Rescue Team to North Carolina to support response and recovery efforts. The collaborative efforts of various organizations and agencies demonstrate Delaware’s commitment to providing aid and assistance to those affected by Hurricane Helene.
