Live coverage of Pakistan v England: First men’s cricket Test, day three in 2024.

England continued their steady accumulation of runs on day three of the test match against Pakistan in Multan. Joe Root reached his 65th Test match fifty, closing in on Alastair Cook’s record as the highest scoring Englishman in Tests. However, opener Zak Crawley was dismissed for 78, leaving England at 113-2.

Ben Duckett, who had previously dislocated his thumb, joined Root at the crease and contributed with some aggressive shots. Despite some reverse swing from Pakistan, England managed to keep the scoreboard ticking along.

The pitch in Multan remained flat and unfriendly for bowlers, as Pakistan posted a massive total of 556 in their first innings. Salman Agha’s hundred frustrated the England bowlers, who also dropped a couple of catches.

The day saw some interesting moments, including Duckett’s fitness being confirmed as he played a morning keepy-uppy game with no signs of strapping on his left hand. The atmosphere in the stadium was quiet, with only a few spectators present due to the hot and dry weather.

As play resumed on day three, all eyes were on Root as he neared Cook’s record as the highest scoring Englishman in Tests. With the pitch continuing to favor batsmen, it was a challenge for the bowlers to make an impact. The match was finely poised, with both teams looking to gain an advantage in the series.
