A tornado from Hurricane Milton caused devastation in a Florida retirement community, resulting in four deaths in St. Lucie County. The Spanish Lakes Country Club Village, a neighborhood for residents 55 and older, was among the hardest-hit areas. The tornado struck at about 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, before Hurricane Milton made landfall on the west coast of Florida. There were no evacuation orders in place for the area as the tornado was unexpected. Search-and-rescue teams are currently working to find anyone who may still be trapped under the debris. St. Lucie County Sheriff Keith Pearson emphasized that they will continue their efforts until they are sure that everyone in need of rescue has been found. This level of destruction has not been seen in the region for decades, with the last similar incident occurring during hurricanes Frances and Jeanne 20 years ago. The community is coming together to support those affected by the disaster and assess the damage caused by the tornado.
