Tehachapi Woman Jerrie Marble Cowan Remembered for Lifetime of Service
Tehachapi lost a beloved member of the community with the recent passing of Jerrie Marble Cowan at the age of 85. Born and raised in Tehachapi, Jerrie was known for her unwavering dedication to her family and her community. She played a key role in founding the Tehachapi Heritage League and served as the museum director for many years. She also volunteered at the Tomo Kahni State Historic Park, educating children about Nuwä culture and advocating for the protection of the site.
In addition to her community work, Jerrie was a devoted wife to her husband Harry for 65 years and a loving mother to her three sons. She was known for her resourcefulness and fearlessness, taking on tasks like building a large addition to their home and teaching herself various skills. Jerrie was also a passionate swim instructor, teaching hundreds of children, including those with special needs, how to swim.
Her dedication to preserving local history and honoring the pioneers of Tehachapi was evident in all aspects of her life. Jerrie’s legacy lives on in the many lives she touched through her work and her kindness. She will be remembered as a strong, capable, and compassionate woman who left an indelible mark on Tehachapi.
