Early voting in Delaware is off to a strong start, with voter turnout already surpassing the entire early voting period in 2022. As of Monday, over 81,000 people have voted early, compared to 55,500 in 2022. New Castle County is seeing high turnout, with over 24,000 ballots cast in the first three days.
Voters in Middletown cited various reasons for casting their ballots early. Some, like Tim and Diane Denbleyker, focused on issues like border security and inflation, leading them to vote Republican. Others, like Danielle Cinderella, prioritized protecting women’s reproductive rights. However, many voters expressed frustration with the tone of the campaigns, citing misleading attack ads and the influence of money in politics.
The upcoming General Election features a race between New Castle County Executive Matt Meyer, the Democratic nominee for governor, and Republican State Rep. Mike Ramone. Some voters, like Cabot Wright, switched their support from Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long to Meyer after the contentious Democratic primary.
Despite the long lines at early voting locations, voters like George emphasized the importance of participating in the democratic process. He highlighted economic issues like inflation and border security as key concerns this election season.
Early voting will continue until November 3rd, with hours extended to accommodate more voters. Locations can be found on the Delaware Department of Elections website, along with tools to help voters find their districts.
