Delaware County introduces ConnectED, an enhanced version of the School-Based Assessment Program aimed at providing proactive mental health and substance use services for school-aged children. The program, initiated by District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer, Delaware County Council, and the Department of Human Services, focuses on strengthening connections between youth, parents, and educators through a school-based approach.
The rebranding of the program emphasizes the commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive environment for every student. ConnectED builds on the success of the School-Based Assessment Program by expanding its capacity to connect students and families to critical behavioral health resources. It continues to support children and families facing mental health challenges and substance use disorders, offering a ‘No Wrong Door’ approach.
ConnectED provides 24/7 access to a live person for questions about resources or behavioral health concerns and employs the Warm Handoff strategy to ensure personalized support and seamless transitions to appropriate care. The program coordinator, a behavioral health professional, offers in-person assessments and support directly within schools, communities, or students’ homes.
MVP Recovery, a Delaware County-based behavioral health provider, is responsible for implementing the ConnectED program. They have connected numerous school-aged youth to immediate inpatient drug and alcohol treatment, mental health treatment, and community supports. The program also includes a 24/7 Peer Support Team to offer recovery and mental health support for students and families throughout the County.
ConnectED is a vital step forward in providing equitable behavioral health services across Delaware County and ensuring that every student receives the help they need when they need it.
