Valencia death toll reaches 95

Recent flooding in Spain has caused widespread devastation, with dramatic rescue efforts captured on social media. Videos showed streets submerged in mud-colored water and emergency services airlifting a woman and her pets to safety from a flooded home. Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his sympathies for those still searching for loved ones and pledged to support the rebuilding efforts for affected villages and cities. Spain’s weather agency declared a red alert in Valencia, where nearly 8 inches of rain fell, leading to flooded roads and disrupted transportation systems. The last time Spain faced such deadly flooding was in 1996, when 87 people died in a town near the Pyrenees mountains. The town of Chiva, near Valencia, experienced over 19 inches of rain in just eight hours, the equivalent of a year’s worth of rainfall. The intense flooding has caused significant damage and loss of life, prompting a unified response from the government and emergency services to assist those affected and begin the process of rebuilding.
