State Agency Launches Sober Rides Campaign for Holiday Safety
As the holiday season approaches, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety is taking proactive measures to enhance roadway safety by launching its new campaign, Sober Rides. This initiative aims to combat driving under the influence (DUI) during one of the busiest travel periods of the year.
Sober Rides will provide vouchers valued up to $20 for rides with popular transportation services Lyft and Uber. The designated time frame for this campaign kicks off on Thanksgiving, starting Wednesday, Nov. 27, at 5 p.m. and continuing through the end of the holiday festivities.
In a press release, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety emphasized the significance of ensuring that everyone has a safe mode of transportation during holiday celebrations, where alcohol consumption often increases. By partnering with ride-sharing services, the state agency aims to deter individuals from driving under the influence and to considerably reduce the risk of accidents on the roads.
The announcement comes in response to alarming statistics regarding DUI incidents during the holiday season. Officials urge residents to take advantage of the Sober Rides program to ensure a safe return home after gatherings that involve drinking.
Delaware’s initiative underscores a broader commitment to public safety, especially during times when families and friends come together to celebrate. The Sober Rides campaign is not only an opportunity to enjoy the festivities responsibly but also a reminder of the importance of collective responsibility in keeping our roads safe.
For those planning to celebrate the holidays with alcohol, the Delaware Office of Highway Safety encourages them to utilize the Sober Rides program to ensure they and their loved ones arrive home safely. By doing so, we can all contribute to a safer holiday season.
