Salesianum and Caravel both secured wins in the DIAA Football semifinals on Friday night, setting up exciting championship matchups. Salesianum dominated Sussex Central with a 39-13 victory, thanks in part to Aiden Lego’s four touchdowns, including a 2Q run. The team will defend their state championship title against the winner of the St Georges vs. Middletown game.
Caravel also had a strong showing, defeating Woodbridge 35-0 despite missing injured running back Josh Roy. Brian Brooks and Ira Yates led the offense in rushing, while the defense held Woodbridge to -4 yards on the ground. The team will face either Howard or Red Lion in the 2A title game after securing their 25th consecutive win.
In the 1A semifinals, Indian River defeated Polytech 30-22, advancing to the state championship for the first time since 2011. They will face the winner of the Brandywine vs. Tatnall game. Excitement is building as these teams prepare to compete for the DIAA Football championship titles.
