Delaware Veterans Coalition Calls for Secretary of Veterans Affairs Appointment
The Delaware Veterans Coalition is urging the incoming administration of Gov. Matt Meyer to appoint a Secretary of Veterans Affairs to better serve the state’s 70,000 veterans and their families. Despite the tributes and ceremonies on days like Memorial Day, July 4, and Veterans Day, veterans are often overlooked the rest of the year.
Many veterans from different conflicts, including WWII, Korea, Vietnam, and the Middle East, face physical and psychological challenges after their service. The coalition stresses the need for better support for these veterans, including addressing PTSD and traumatic brain injuries. They also highlight the economic contributions veterans make to Delaware, estimating it at $4 billion annually.
The coalition emphasizes the need for a veteran’s presence at the governor’s table to ensure their concerns are heard and addressed by state and federal legislators. They believe that investing in veterans’ care not only reflects a moral obligation but also makes practical sense for the state.
