Delaware County Judge Sentences Rayshawn Anderson to Life in Prison for Fatal Shooting Incident
Rayshawn Anderson, who was just 17 years old at the time of the incident, has been sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 15 years for fatally shooting 38-year-old Alonzo Byrd in early March. The shooting occurred as a result of an ongoing feud between Anderson and Byrd, with one witness reporting hearing Anderson reference ‘snitches’ before the incident. Initially charged in juvenile court, Anderson was later transferred to adult court where he faced charges of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, discharge of a firearm on prohibited premises, and tampering with evidence (later dismissed). In addition to the life sentence for murder, Anderson was also sentenced to six to nine years for the firearm discharge charge and six years for two firearm specifications. This sentencing sends a strong message about the consequences of gun violence and the importance of accountability in the criminal justice system.
