Former President Donald Trump has been elected as the 47th President of the United States, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris in a closely contested race. Trump captured 277 electoral votes, according to the Associated Press. In other key races, Andy Kim replaced Bob Menendez in New Jersey, Delaware elected its first transgender member of Congress and first Black female senator, and Pennsylvania saw a fierce U.S. Senate battle between Bob Casey and David McCormick. Voters also decided on statewide races for Attorney General, Auditor General, Treasurer, as well as numerous U.S. House and state Senate and House seats.
In New Jersey, Andy Kim defeated Curtis Bashaw to replace Bob Menendez, while in Delaware, Lisa Blunt Rochester became the first woman and Black person to represent the state in the Senate. Sarah McBride also made history by becoming the first openly transgender woman to serve in Congress. Matt Meyer won the governor’s race in Delaware, promising to fix the state’s education system.
