Colorado dentist allegedly attempted to murder detective investigating case by poisoning protein shakes

Colorado dentist James Craig, previously charged with poisoning his wife’s protein shakes, is now facing new charges for allegedly trying to kill a detective involved in the case. The solicitation to commit first-degree murder charge was filed last week. Craig, who has pleaded not guilty to the murder of his wife, faces additional charges of solicitation to commit perjury. It is not clear if he has a new attorney to represent him.

Records obtained by KUSA indicate Craig was in jail with the man he allegedly tried to enlist for the murder plot. The detective targeted in the alleged scheme had worked on the investigation into Angela Craig’s death. Authorities had initially suspected arsenic and cyanide poisoning in her death, but the county coroner later attributed it to cyanide and tetrahydrozoline.

James Craig’s internet search history and online purchases, which included potassium cyanide, raised suspicions. His business partner alerted authorities when he learned of the purchase, leading to a nurse reporting the incident. Craig initially denied buying the cyanide but later claimed his wife had asked him to order it.

At a court hearing last year, Craig’s defense lawyer stated there was no direct evidence linking him to the poisoning. The lawyer withdrew just before jury selection was set to begin, citing concerns about Craig’s actions. As a result, jury selection has been postponed indefinitely. Authorities have not provided additional details about the case.
