Conquering a Major Technical Challenge


Korean scientists have developed a breakthrough technology that could revolutionize the implementation of solar energy worldwide. The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology, in collaboration with UniTest Co, has achieved a record-breaking efficiency of 20.6% in perovskite solar cells, surpassing the previous best of 19.2%. Perovskite is cheaper and more readily available than silicon, making it a more cost-effective option for solar panels.

The new technology addresses long-standing issues of efficiency and durability in perovskite solar cells, bringing them closer to being on par with traditional silicon panels. Experts believe that perovskite has the potential to achieve up to 27% efficiency in capturing solar energy, with recent advancements marking significant progress towards that goal.

UniTest plans to accelerate the commercialization process of the more efficient panels, with plans to introduce them to the market for use in semi-transparent solar roofs for cars and indoor solar cells. The development of this technology represents a major milestone in the collaboration between industry and research, paving the way for the widespread adoption of solar cell technologies.
